Campus and Community Writing - YpsiWrites Initiative
YpsiWrites Community Writing Center
YpsiWrites is a new community writing center developed by EMU's Office of Campus & Community Writing (C2W) in collaboration with the Ypsilanti District Library (YDL) and 826michigan.
YpsiWrites celebrates, supports, and empowers all writers, from early childhood to adulthood, encouraging them to develop and refine their skills in familiar and unfamiliar kinds of writing. All YpsiWrites services are free to community members and are staffed by trained volunteers. Services include
- Drop-in tutoring hours at all three YDL locations
- Workshops for youth and adults
- Special programs in community organizations and schools
YpsiWrites was co-founded by EMU English Professors Ann Blakeslee (C2W Director) and Cathy Fleischer (C2W Faculty Associate) as a culmination of a decades-long dream to extend support for writing beyond the university.
We are asking for your support so we can continue to help community members develop their voices and discover the importance of writing in their personal, workplace and civic lives. Private funds will be used for staff and volunteer development and resources and for programming for our patrons.
