The Eastern Echo and the student media team are focused on taking the news operation into the future with an emphasis on multimedia delivery and good old-fashioned, strong reporting tools.
Journalism is changing, but the work journalists produce is as necessary as ever. Among the many goals of the student staff is upgrading the tools they use to do their jobs. That includes updating our small podcast studio this past year with some new microphones and focusing this year on acquiring modern digital cameras that capture both still and video images.
Journalists today must be adept at multimedia as we move into the future, but also in delivering the news today -- because our audience demands news in multiple ways.
Multimedia delivery on digital platforms keeps The Echo relevant to the community it has served for more than 140 years. The team is producing podcasts with an audio studio and using still photos in its promotion. Most of the camera work by the staff -- for everything from the print edition to social media videos -- is accomplished using personal cell phones. To continue to produce professional quality work, we are planning to purchase several new cameras, and a video setup for our podcasting studio.
Both will help the staff cover the university and Ypsilanti communities in the manner expected from our audiences, including longtime readers and upcoming generations.
Your generous donation will help us produce quality journalistic content in up-to-date formats -- words, images and video -- and train the next generation of journalists with multimedia skills as well as critical thinking and reporting skills.
You will help the Eastern Echo forward to the next century!
